2024

2024 aluminum alloy contains copper, magnesium and manganese as hardeners, which can be precipitation hardened through heat treatment to achieve the highest strength grade among commercially available aluminum alloys. Compared with some other aluminum alloys, its corrosion resistance and weldability are relatively poor, so its use is subject to certain restrictions. If it is used in applications with corrosion problems, it is recommended to use al-clad sheets and plates. The alloy retains useful strength at temperatures up to about 150°C. As the temperature increases further, its intensity decreases sharply. This material, like general wrought aluminum alloys, has relatively low mechanical properties and stress corrosion resistance in the short transverse direction.
